Case Study: Remote Handling


The Challenge

Aquila was asked to team with a leading radiometrics business on an exclusive basis during the bid stage for drum assaying. In a short bid period we needed to produce a scheme design in enough detail to ensure we met the functional specification and also were able to provide a firm price.

What We Did

We designed, in 3D, the complete drum assay system which incorporated drum lift and rotate remotely, all housed with composite plastic and lead shielding, during the bid stage and ultimately, won the contract. The complete system including the EC&I, was designed and built within our own facility prior to despatch to our client’s site for integration of radiometrics.

The Result

Working as an integrated team during the bid stage, our client trusted us to provide a robust remote handling solution together with the EC&I. The end user gained the benefit of decades of nuclear engineering expertise during the bid stage to gain confidence in our proposed joint solution.
